I've also "started running" on this one. So far, I'm thinking: If this is an AA game (as the studio has described its game) then bring on more of it! It's better than some AAA games I've played in the past 12 months!
Beautiful and wonderful game. I'm really enjoying the combat a ton and all of the characters are so well-written, especially since everyone (except Maelle of course) is in their 30s and are struggling with lots of grief, depression, and really complex trauma and emotion. The setting is so unique and original, it's just refreshing all around. I'm a little over 20 hours in and I think I'm nearing the end of Act 2, but I'm hitting a bit of a difficulty spike so I'll probably go level up and re-explore areas for a while now.
Agree with everything you said! Wow you must be going fast, I'm 15 hours in right now and still in Act 1. No idea how long it is but I imagine I must be getting close! Trying not to rush and enjoy but also keep things moving :D
Yeah I'm generally not a completionist at all and there are some things about it that severely hamper my personal enjoyment in exploring (like the lack of a mini map or map at all, no ability to mark areas you want to return to, no quest log, etc etc) so I'm mostly mainlining, but exploring a bit here and there.
Valid, and I'm wondering if some elements of those will be added in future. It's a deliberate decision right now though, and I think it adds to the realism for lack of a better word—the Expedition doesn't have maps, why would we?
I actually disagree! I think it would have made far more sense that we discover outlines of maps at the abandoned former expedition sites and then filled it in as we went. It doesn't make much sense to me that former expeditions wouldn't have been mapping it as they went.
I got a sense that they didn't for whatever reason, and neither does our Expedition, except for the journals they leave behind. Survival took most of their time—at least the way I see it. Maps would be nice though 😁
I am backseat playing it with my partner and it's such a gorgeous looking game, the enemy design, the environments, the music 😍 he's finding the combat challenging as well (I think he's about 10 hrs as well) I might have to write about it, even though I'm not playing it myself 😂
Glad it's not just me with the combat. I feel like I'm starting to hold my own little by little but I imagine it's a false sense of security; who knows what awaits ahead. You should write about it!

Heh fair point. I think it would be sufficient for me to label the post clearly when it comes. I do want to finish the game first before writing about it with spoilers, too, because what if it sucks at the end? (lol I'm very sure it doesn't)
