From the moment you started describing the game, I instantly started getting Civ vibes. It also was reminding me of Tropico. I love a good strategy game every now and then. I think the most interesting detail about this game is that you can zoom out and see that it's an actual board game you are playing. I also like that it's not too complex. It feels like they want to appeal to a wider audience. They want to draw in fans of real-time strategy games, but they also want to appeal to casual gamers who want to just chill and not be bogged down with complex mechanics.
I was nervous about making the Civ comparison since I never played any of them and didn't know how skin-deep that comparison might be. Let Them Trade is definitely not as expansive or complex, but I think that's exactly why it has the potential to do well—as you say, it may have a wider audience appeal, and I hope they reach it!
When I saw your first screenshot, I honestly thought this was a real tabletop game and got confused! I like how it looks like it plays on your kitchen table though, very cute. Thanks for the write up!
Looking at it with fresh eyes myself, I can see how you would! It's so adorable. I'd randomly zoom out so many times while playing, just to look at the cat or the board game box on one of the chairs, or to see if I could spot anything outside the window!
If you liked this one, may I also recommend Before We Leave (and its sequel Beyond These Stars) -- It leans more Sims than Dofromantik, but still cozy and colourful!
I haven’t played Let Them Trade, but the idea of a calm, cozy trade-route game appeals to me. The tabletop vibe sounds right up my alley. Appreciate the tone of this piece too, thoughtful and easygoing, like the kind of game it’s describing.
Really appreciate you saying that! It's a cute little experience with no space for tension (although there is a tiny bit in the game, just for fun). Let Them Trade came out two weeks ago, so it's very new still! I hope you get to play it soon if you liked the sound of it.

I have my eye on this game!

Oh wonderful, thank you so much, I'll check them out!
